Tints, dyed by hand in our lab

Every tint on this page is dipped in our own tint bar in Salt Lake City — not sent out. The one question we get most from offices is which density do I order? Use the numbers below: 1, 2, or 3.
  • Tint #1 — 15–25% light blocking
  • Tint #2 — 50–60% light blocking
  • Tint #3 — 85–90% light blocking
  • Solid or gradient, plus custom color matching

Light

15–25% light blocking

A hint of color. Patients keep near-normal indoor vision — good for cosmetic tint, mild light sensitivity, overcast driving, and computer work.

Order as "Tint #1" plus the color.

Medium

50–60% light blocking

The everyday in-between. Comfortable outdoors, still wearable stepping inside. Most fashion gradients and driving tints land here.

Order as "Tint #2" plus the color.

3

Dark

85–90% light blocking

True sunwear density. Full-sun use, water, snow, and photophobic patients who want the darkest we can dye without going polarized.

Inside the tint bar

Dipped, checked, and re-dipped until it matches

Our techs pull lenses out of the dye, read them against a reference, and put them back in until the density is right. That's why a #2 gray you order in March matches the #2 gray you order in October.

Custom tinting at Premier Vision Optical Laboratory

What we can tint

If it takes dye, we can color it. Ask us before you assume something isn't possible.

Full color range

Gray, brown, green, yellow, rose, blue, and the fashion shades in between — plus custom matching when a patient brings in an old pair.

Solid or gradient

Even solids across the lens, or a gradient that fades from your chosen density at the top to near-clear at the bottom.

Sunwear and specialty

Density #3 for full-sun wear, therapeutic tints for light sensitivity, and our measured FL-41 when a patient needs migraine relief.

Materials

CR-39 takes dye best and goes darkest. Polycarbonate, Trivex, and high-index tint more slowly — ask us before promising a patient a #3.

Tint over AR

Tint first, coat second. Order the tint and the AR together and we sequence it correctly the first time.

No send-out delay

Tinting happens in the same building as surfacing and finishing, so a tinted job doesn't add days to your turnaround.

How to write it on the order

Tint: Gray #3 solid

Tint: Brown #2 gradient

Tint: Rose #1 solid
